The “Military Veteran Stand Down with a Heart” event will be Saturday, Aug. 1, at Peddler’s Village in Goshen.
GOSHEN — Several organizations are working together to lend a helping hand to veterans.
“Military Veteran Stand Down with a Heart” will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at Peddler’s Village in Goshen. The event will help raise awareness about the number of homeless veterans in Elkhart County and connect them with local services and job opportunities.
The event is a collaboration between several organizations, including FreedomSystem.Org, The Military Family Research Institute, the Marine Corps League and WorkOne.
“It’s important to get the word out about homeless veterans and veterans that need jobs,” FreedomSystem.org CEO Kenny Holmes said. “Veterans stood up for our country, you know, and they need all the support we can give them. Having been in combat myself, I understand the needs of coming back from combat and not understanding how to get through the processes and what there is.”
Several companies and organizations will have booths at the event to connect veterans with services such as counseling, housing and legal assistance. A number of local companies will be looking for workers, Holmes said.
The event includes live entertainment. Veterans will be given a free meal.
